District Steam is a system that distributes steam and hot water generated in a centralized location for residential and commercial use. Akron Energy System has a total steam production capacity of 725,000 pounds per hour. Steam is distributed to customers through an 18-mile underground piping network. Hot water, produced from the boiler water pre-heaters, is used in-plant and is also sold for residential and commercial heating use. We use a diverse fuel mix of renewal recycled wood waste, Tire Derived Fuel (TDF) and low sulfur coal and clean burning natural gas.
